The focus of Behavior Support services is problem behavior reduction and skill building through parent and caregiver training. The goal is lasting positive behavior change maintained by parents and caregivers.
Population served:
Adults diagnosed with developmental disabilities, their families, and caregivers.
Benefits of services:
● Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based treatment approach used for individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities.
● Services are provided in the individual’s home, community, and/or day program with programming and supervision conducted by Behavior Technicians (BT) and Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA).
● Individualized Behavior Support Plans (BSP) address problem behavior and teach functional replacement skills.
● In addition to problem behavior reduction BSP address communication skills, independent daily living skills, independent leisure skills, and social skills.
● Collaborative family and caregiver approach assists with the implementation of behavior strategies outlined in the BSP. Ongoing parent and caregiver training helps to ensure lasting behavior change.
● Using Inclusive Language
● Behavior support services address communication skills by teaching and utilizing the communication method that matches the individual’s abilities.

Frequently Asked Questions
The first step to receiving Behavior Support Services is to complete a Behavior Support referral form, and someone from our Client Care department will contact you within 2 business days regarding the referral. If a Behaviorist is available, we will complete an intake meeting. Once the intake process is complete, the Behavior Support team will reach out to the caregiver to schedule the first session.
The initial assessment includes a functional behavior assessment and the creation of an individualized behavior support plan. This process will include parent/caregiver interviews, record review, behavior observation, baseline data collection, creation of the behavior support plan, and Behavior Management Committee BSP review. A total of 20 assessment hours are dedicated to the functional behavior assessment and the process takes up to 45 days to complete. Behavior Support Services can begin when the BSP is reviewed and approved by the Behavior Management Committee. Behavior Support Services include parent and caregiver training on the implementation of the BSP, BSP oversight, and BSP effectiveness evaluation.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the science of behavior first developed by B.F. Skinner in the 1930’s. This treatment approach can be utilized with various populations and settings. ABA treatment may look different depending on the setting and population.
ABA therapy for children includes intensive treatment that may include up to 40 hours a week of treatment. Major focus on treatment is skill building in addition to behavior reduction if needed.
Behavior Support Services are focused on parent and caregiver training model. The focus of treatment is problem behavior reduction in addition to skill building. Parents and caregivers are taught to implement behavior strategies outlined in the behavior support plan. The goal is lasting positive behavior change maintained by parents and caregivers. Important skills that parents will learn include proactive strategies that help prevent adverse behavior, replacement skills that will be used instead of problem behavior, reactive procedures when problem behavior is exhibited, and various reinforcement systems that help to ensure lasting behavior change.
The amount of Behavior Support Services that is recommended are based on individual and family need. Typically, this may be from 2 to 6 hours a week.
