Behavior Technician

Behavior Technicians provides high quality services to children, youth and adults with a variety of developmental disabilities, who are in need of assistance in reducing challenging behaviors. Challenging behaviors include, but are not limited to, aggression towards others, self-injury, property destruction, and elopement. Under the direct supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the Behavior Technician will provide behavioral programming services that will assist clients maintain the highest level of physical, mental and psychosocial well-being possible.

Responsibilities & Duties: As a Behavior Technician, you are responsible for implementing Behavior Intervention Plans and skill acquisition goals developed by the Board Certified Behavior Analyst and/or Senior Behavior Specialist. Services will be conducted 1:1, and will be provided in the day program or in community settings. The following job description outlines essential job functions, but may not provide a comprehensive list of duties that may be assigned:

Work collaboratively with a Senior Behavior Specialist and/or BCBA in order to implement basic principles of ABA therapy.

Provide quality 1:1 instruction and/or group instruction to children and adults with autism-spectrum disorder or other related developmental disabilities in communication, social, adaptive, play and vocational skill(s).

Maintain client confidentiality.

Plan/develop/modify behavioral programming as necessary for client’s/families’ needs.

Plan/develop/modify appropriate behavior programs and materials.

Complete Progress Reports as assigned.

Write reports based on initial assessment, including behavior support recommendations, programming strategies and tracking forms.

Review skill and behavior data on an agreed upon schedule (minimally monthly).

Collaborate with families in the development of behavior support strategies.

Train support staff in the implementation of Behavior Supports Plans and recommended strategies.

Demonstrate an understanding of behavior analysis strategies in all interactions with clients/families.

Report any hazardous or unsafe conditions to supervisor/site administrator.

Demonstrate empathy and compassion in conduct towards clients.

Demonstrate respect, cooperation, consideration, and tact in dealing with subordinates, peers, supervisors, families and others.

Cooperate with the applicable State Department or Division licensing unit with all reasonable and legally mandated inspections or investigations.

Qualifications:

Must be 21 years of age or older

Must be legally permitted to work in the United States

Complete State/Federal Criminal Background checks and Central Registry checks

Possess and maintain a valid New Jersey driver’s license (or Resident State)

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Applied Behavior Analysis,, or Public Health preferred.

Registered Behavioral Technician preferred

Experience Requirements:

Ideal candidates have at least 1 to 3 years experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities in an applicable, educational group setting, based on DDD and DOE programs.

Pay Rate: $25 - $30 an hour
